Col. Steve McGunegle
Col. Steve McGunegle received his commission as an armor officer in 1999 from the United States Military Academy. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course and Engineer Advance Course, U.S. Army Air Assault School, Scout Leaders Course, the Command and General Staff College, and Army War College.
McGunegle’s previous assignments include: Tank and Scout Platoon Leader, Troop Executive Officer and Assistant S-3, 1-3 ACR (Fort Carson, Colorado); Deputy Chief of Operations (HQ, 2ID, Republic of Korea), Troop Commander, C/4-7 CAV (2ID, Republic of Korea); Assistant Professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at the USMA (West Point, New York); Squadron S3 and XO, 6th Squadron 9th Cavalry Squadron (3d BDE, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas); Bradley Staff Synchronization Officer and Maneuver Team Chief (Force Development Directorate, HQDA G-8, Pentagon); Commander of 2nd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment (Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri); Special Assistant to the Director of the Army Staff, and most recently he served as the Assistant Deputy Director for Facilities and Services at the Defense Intelligence Agency.
McGunegle has deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Egypt in support of the Multinational Force and Observers.
McGunegle’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and Air Assault Wings.
McGunegle holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Science from the University of Missouri-Rolla, a Master of Science from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
McGunegle is married to Col. Margaret L. McGunegle, who is commanding the 130th Engineer Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command. They have two children.
