Col. Thomas J. Barrett

Col. Thomas (Tom) Barrett was commissioned an aviation officer in 1995 from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks ROTC program and has served in various command and staff positions throughout his career in the Army.

Units he has served in include the 10th Mountain Division, 82nd Airborne Division, Aviation Technology Office, 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army Pacific, U.S. Army Alaska, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, and the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence. He has deployed multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Prior to attending the Air War College, Barrett served as the Director of Evaluation and Standardization at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Fort Rucker, Alabama. Previous assignments include Assistant S-3 and Platoon Leader in 10th Aviation Brigade; S-4, Company Commander, and Brigade S-1 in the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade; Operations Officer in 2-6 Cavalry and the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade; Future Operations Chief for U.S. Army Pacific’s deployable Contingency Command Post, and commander of the 1st Battalion 52nd Aviation Regiment, a General Support Aviation Battalion.

Barrett has a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a master's degree in Business Administration from Webster University, a master's degree in Military Arts and Science from the School of Advance Military Studies, and a master's degree in Strategic Studies from the Air War College. He is a graduate of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, the Aviation Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms Service Staff School, the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Advance Military Studies Program, and the Air War College. He is qualified in the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior and UH-60A/L/M Black Hawk.

Barrett's military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He has earned the Combat Action Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and German Parachutist Badge.
