The Transition Assistance Program is mandated by the Department of Defense and provides information and training to ensure transitioning Soldiers, Department of the Army Civilians, retirees, veterans, Soldiers’ Family members, and caregivers are prepared for their next step in life when leaving the Army – whether pursuing additional education, finding a job in the public or private sector, or starting their own business. The Transition Assistance Program helps assist eligible personnel make informed decisions through benefits counseling, career preparation, and employment assistance to provide a successful transition.
- Participation in TAP:
- Must register and complete the Enterprise Individualized Self-Assessment at https://armytap.appsplatformportals.us. Upon completion, contact our TAP office to get scheduled for Individualized Initial Counseling.
- Initial and Pre-Separation Counseling should be completed 366 days prior to separation date.
- Retirees with Mandatory Retirement Date must start 24 months prior to Anticipated or Mandatory Retirement Date.
- Chapters, REFRAD and Soldiers in IDES Process, Commanders must ensure Soldiers begin TAP at the earliest available opportunity.
- Soldiers deploying who will have less than 12 months upon redeployment must start the program before deployment.
- Retirees, to include medically retired, may participate in TAP for life.
- Veterans and Soldiers who did not retire but had 180 days or more of active service may participate in TAP for life.
- TAP counselors are available at the SFAC for SRU and MEB Soldiers.
