Col. Loyd W. Brown
Col. Loyd W. Brown was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant as an Armor Officer in 1999. He graduated from Texas State University in 1998. His initial assignment was with the 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea where he served as a Tank Platoon Leader Mortar Platoon Leader, Headquarters and Headquarters Camp Casey Executive Officer, and Aide de Camp to the Assistant Division Commander (Maneuver).
After attending the Armor Officer Advanced Course, he served as the Squadron Maintenance Officer and Plans Officer for 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment Fort Irwin, CA. He then deployed as part of Task Force Blackhorse in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 2003. Upon his return he took command of Charlie Troop and deployed in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following command, he served as a Small Group Instructor at the Infantry Captains Career Course, Fort Benning, GA. In 2009 he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Aide de Camp to the Multi National Security Transition Command-Iraq Commanding General.
After graduating from the Naval War College, Newport, RI. COL Brown was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division. He served a year on the Division Staff as a member of the Training and Exercises team and was then assigned to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team. He served as the operations officer for both the 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment and 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team. COL Brown was then selected for and served as the Executive Officer for the United States Forces Korea/United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations.
After completing battalion command of the 1st Battalion, 409th Cavalry Squadron he was selected to serve as the Executive Officer to the 8th Army Commanding General, Combined Forces Command Chief of Staff and ROK Combined Ground Component Command Deputy Commander. COL Brown was then selected to be the Army War College Fellow at Nanyang Technical University where he worked as part of the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies – RSIS think tank. In his most recent assignment, he served as the United States Forces Korea Chief of Training and Exercises/Combined Forces Command Deputy Chief of Training and Exercises.
He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course, Armor Captains Career Course. Cavalry Leaders Course Combined Arms Services Staff School, Naval War College, Army War College Visiting Fellow (Nanyang Technical University, Singapore) and Airborne School. He holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Navy War College, Newport Rhode Island.
His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Army Meritorious Service Medal (5 awards), Army Commendation Medal (2 awards), Army Achievement Medal (5 awards), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), and the Joint Meritorious Unit Citation.
