Colonel John W. Campbell
Commissioned as an Infantry Officer upon graduating from the United States Military Academy
at West Point in 2003.
His command and leadership assignments include Platoon Leader and Company Executive
Officer, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson
(JBER), Alaska; Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, Attack Company, 2nd
Ranger Battalion; Company Commander, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment; Headquarters
and Headquarters Company Commander and Battalion S3, 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor
Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, Fort Riley, Kansas; Squadron S3 and Executive
Officer, 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort
Wainwright, Alaska; Infantry Branch Assignment Officer, U.S. Army Human Resources
Command, Fort Knox, KY; Joint Planner, U.S. Navy 3rd Fleet Headquarters, INDOPACOM;
and Squadron Commander, 1st Squadron (Airborne), 40th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Infantry
Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 11th Airborne Division, JBER, Alaska. His most recent
assignments include Senior Airborne Light Infantry Trainer (Tarantula Team) and
subsequently G3, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.
Colonel Campbell has deployed for a total of 46 months in support of operations in
Afghanistan and Iraq.
He holds a Master of Business Administration and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War
College. His military education includes the U.S. Army Ranger School, Jumpmaster Course,
Cavalry Leaders Course, and Joint Professional Military Education II.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (3 OLC), Meritorious Service
Medal (5 OLC), Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Air Force
Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Achievement
Medal (3 OLC), Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Senior
Parachutist Badge.
Colonel Campbell is married to Abby, and they have one son, Wyatt, an avid hockey player.
