Command Sgt. Maj. Ruben Murillo Jr.

Command Sergeant Major Ruben Murillo Jr. was born and raised in Houston, Texas where he graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in June 1996. He entered the United States Army in November 1996, completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was awarded the MOS 12B, Combat Engineer.

CSM Murillo’s previous assignments include 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, 70th Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Division, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Houston Recruiting Battalion, 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 215th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Bucknell University ROTC, the Division Chief Engineer and Protection SGM, 1st Armored Division, Commander of Bagram Airfield Senior Enlisted Leader in support of United States Forces – Afghanistan and Resolute Support Mission and CSM for 16th BEB, 1st ABCT, 1st Armored Division.  CSM Murillo has held every leadership position from Team Leader to Command Sergeant Major.

CSM Murillo’s previous deployments include Operation Joint Forge with 20th Engineer Battalion from August 1998 to April 1999, Operation Desert Spring with 70th Engineer Battalion from May 2002 to October 2002, Operation Iraqi Freedom II with 20th Engineer Battalion from March 2004 to March 2005, Operation Iraqi Freedom 2006 through 2008 with 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment from October 2006 to January 2008 and Operation Resolute Support Mission with HHBN 1st Armored Division from July 2019 to November 2019.  He has also attended numerous rotations to the National Training Center and the Joint Readiness Training Center.

CSM Murillo resides in Fort Wainwright, AK with his spouse.  His short-term goal is to successfully complete his tenure as the Garrison Command Sergeant Major of Fort Wainwright, AK.  His long-term goals are to be selected as a Nominative level CSM and receive his Master’s Degree in Psychology to serve as a counselor for Soldiers suffering from PTSD after retirement.
