Colonel Timothy D. Gatlin

Deputy Commander - Maneuver

 

 

COL Timothy D. Gatlin currently serves as the Deputy Commanding Officer for Maneuver for the 3rd Infantry Division. Prior to his arrival at Fort Stewart, COL Gatlin served as the Director of the Strategic Initiatives Group in the Office of the Vice-Chief of Staff of the Army. 

 

COL Gatlin is a native of Houston, Texas, and a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from West Point, a Master of Arts Degree in Social-Organizational Psychology and Leadership from Columbia University and a Master of Arts Degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.

 

His previous command assignments include C Battery, 2nd Regimental Field Artillery Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany, the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, and the 1st Cavalry Division Artillery Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Cavazos, TX. 

 

COL Gatlin’s other assignments include Company and Battalion Tactical Officer, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, Iraq Desk Chief, Joint Staff, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J5), Pentagon, VA, and Operation Inherent Resolve Branch Chief, Joint Staff, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J5), Pentagon, VA. COL Gatlin also served as a White House Fellow, Class of 2016-2017.

 

COL Gatlin’s operational deployments and combat tours include Operation Iraqi Freedom - Iraq, Operation Spartan Shield - Middle East, and Operation Atlantic Resolve - Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania.

 

His military badges include the Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, Close Combat Action Badge, and Ranger Tab. His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (with oak leaf cluster), Bronze Star Medal (with oak leaf cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (five oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (with oak leaf cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Award, Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Valorous Unit Award, the Army Superior Unit Award, and the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara (Ancient Order).
