From the banks of the Marne River in 1918 where the unit held back a determined German offensive and earned its moniker the ‘Rock of the Marne’, to the banks of the Tigris in 2003 where the world’s premier mechanized force defeated the Republican Guard in mere days, the 3rd Infantry Division has been at the forefront of decisive victories that have changed the course
of worldwide events throughout its astonishing 104-year history.
Dogface Soldiers have a right to be proud: As the “Hammer of the XVIII Airborne Corps” and part of our nation’s ever-ready strategic response force, units of the mighty 3rd ID continue to deploy today to support combatant commands all over the world, assisting our allies and partners in a wide range of environments and missions.
