Lt. Col. Wayne E. Griffin Jr., Commander, 1-210th Aviation Regiment

LTC Wayne E. Griffin Jr. hails from New Orleans, LA. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on Sep 11,2002 as a Petroleum Supply Specialist (92F). He was later awarded a Green to Gold Scholarship in 2005 to attend Tuskegee University, AL and commissioned as an Aviation Officer in 2007.

LTC Griffin completed Flight School (2007-2009) and graduated as an AH-64 pilot. His first duty station was Fort Cavazos, TX where he served as a Platoon Leader in 1-4th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion (ARB), 4th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) from 2009-2011. His next assignment was Fort Bliss, TX where he served as the Battalion Operations Officer (S3) for 1-501st ARB, 1st Armored Division (AD) CAB (2011-2012) and the Personnel Recovery Officer/Brigade Aviation Officer for 1st Brigade, 1AD Stryker Brigade (2012-2013). He attended the Aviation Captains Career Course (AVCCC) at Fort Rucker, AL (2013-2014). He assumed command of Bravo Company, 1-210th Aviation Regiment, 128th Aviation Brigade, Joint Langley- Eustis, VA (2014-2016). LTC Griffin was assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC), LA (2016-2017) as a Scout Observer Controller/Trainer (OC/T) followed by selection to the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, KS (2017-2018). LTC Griffin was assigned to Fort Hood, TX and served in multiple leadership and staff positions to include the 1st Cavalry Division G32 Aviation Director, 1-227th  Attack Battalion, Executive and Operations Officer, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade (1ACB)  Operations Officer, and 166th Aviation Regiment, Division West, Brigade Operations OC/T. LTC Griffin was assigned to the National Training Center (NTC), CA (2023-2024) serving as the Aviation Task Force Operations Officer OC/T with a follow-on assignment to Fort Bragg, NC (2024-2025) as the 82nd Airborne Division G32 Aviation Director. 

LTC Griffin’s combat deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom, (2003); Operation Iraqi Resolve, (2019), Operation Enduring Freedom, (2010/2012);  and Assure and Deter Operations, Europe (2021).

LTC Griffin’s military education includes the AH-64D/E Transition Course, Air Cavalry Leaders Course (ACLC), Army Basic Instructor Course. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from Tuskegee University in Animal Science with a minor in Business Management, a Master of Military Arts & Science  from CGSC, and a Master of Management & Leadership from Webster University.

His notable awards and decorations include the Air Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4), the Army Commendation Medal (V Device,) and the Combat Action Badge. LTC Griffin is the partner of Sherdell McCullough and father of four children: Wayne III (23), Jourdan (22), Wanye’ (20), and Joshua (11).
