Col. James H. Scullion, AMCOM Combined Logistics Command
Colonel James H. Scullion is a native of Elbridge, New York. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2000 and commissioned into the U.S. Army as an Aviation Officer.
A career AH-64 helicopter pilot, COL Scullion started his first assignment as an Attack Platoon Leader in 2/6 Cavalry with a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 1 (OIF). Upon redeployment, COL Scullion served as a Maintenance Platoon Leader in 601st Aviation Support Battalion and deployed back to Iraq for another OIF deployment. After completing the Aviation Captains Career Course, COL Scullion served as the HHC/3-3 ARB Company Commander followed by C/1-10 ARB Company Commander at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. This C/1-10 ARB Company Command included a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2008 – 2009.
COL Scullion served as an Attack Company Trainer and Executive Officer Trainer at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, CA. Following graduation from the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS in December 2012, he served in key field grade level billets as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer of 1-501 ARB in addition to 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) Operations Officer at Fort Bliss, TX. This assignment included a deployment to Afghanistan as the Task Force 1-501 Aviation Operations Officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After serving as the Assistant Executive Officer to the Army Inspector General, COL Scullion assumed command of 1-10 ARB at Fort Drum, NY with 10th CAB from February 2018 to July 2020. This assignment included a deployment as the Task Force 1-10 Aviation Commander to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel from 2019 – 2020.
After graduating from the Marine Corps War College in 2021, COL Scullion served on the Joint Staff as the J8 Force Application Division Deputy within the Requirements and Capability Development Directorate. In his previous assignment he was the Marine Command and Staff College Deputy Director and Marine Corps University Army Chair.
COL Scullion’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Master Army Aviation Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
COL Scullion is married to the former Maren Amy Gillis of Augusta, Georgia. They have four children, Clare who is 20, Joseph who is 18, Audrey who is 13, and William who is 11.
