Col. Stephen Owen, Aviation Center Logistics Command
A native of Littleton, Colorado, Col. Stephen Owen graduated from Brigham Young University in 1997 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in Aviation through the ROTC program.
Owen’s initial assignment was with Alpha Co., 2-52nd Aviation Regiment in Camp Humphreys, South Korea, where he served as a flight platoon leader. Owen then served with the 7th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a flight platoon leader. Following the Captains Career Course, Owen was assigned to K Co., 159th Aviation Regiment, at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, where he served as commander for a forward deployed maintenance detachment in Bagram, Afghanistan. Following which, he commanded D Co., 1-58th Aviation Regiment (ATS) and deployed to Camp Taji, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. Later in the deployment, he assumed command of B Co., 2-3 General Support Aviation Battalion, in the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division. Owen next served at Fort Rucker, Alabama, as the battalion S3 in the 1-223rd Aviation Regiment and as the brigade S3 in the 110th Aviation Brigade. In 2010, Owen returned to Camp Humphreys where he served as commander of B Co., 602nd Aviation Support Battalion, and as the brigade executive officer in the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade in the 2nd Infantry Division. Following his second Korean tour, Owen served as the U.S. Army Central G32 deputy at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. From June 2015 to June 2017, Owen served as commander of the 122nd Aviation Support Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. Following battalion command, Owen was assigned to OPM-SANG where he served as an advisor to the Saudi Arabian National Guard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Most recently, Owen served as the director, Directorate of Training and Doctrine, U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence.
Owen is a Senior Army Aviator qualified in the CH-47F Chinook helicopter and is a graduate of the CH-47D Instructor Pilot and Maintenance Test Pilot Courses. He is also a graduate of both the Airborne and Air Assault Courses.
Owen’s professional military education includes the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Aviation Captain’s Career Course, the Combined Arms Staff Services School, the Command and General Staff College / Intermediate Level Education and the U.S. Army War College. Owen earned a Masters in Arts in military studies from American Military University and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
