Virtual SHARP Walk runs throughout September
Army Community Service (ACS) is hosting the Virtual SHARP Walk from Sept. 1-30.
The walk is intended to show sexual-assault survivors that they do not walk alone. The walk supports Brighter Tomorrows, a local shelter for sexual-assault and/or domestic violence survivors. Participants are asked to donate an item (such as hygiene or cleaning items, diapers, or towels) for the shelter. Items can be dropped off at the Commissary (building 1537) or ACS (building 2111).
Participants should post a screenshot of their miles from a fitness tracker or app to the event discussion board at ACS’ Facebook page. The unit or organization with the most miles will receive the SHARP trophy.

Connect the Tots fall playgroup starts Sept. 14
The Connect the Tots fall playgroup starts Sept. 14.
Playgroups are 10 a.m. to noon at The Army Community Service Family Building, 2161. Each playgroup features a theme. The playgroup contains toys, books, and other materials to help strengthen each child’s cognitive, physical, and creative selves and to help promote social-emotional skill building. Through play, transitions, circle time, songs and activities, and informal conversations, parents learn about developmental ages and stages,gain tools to help understand their child’s behavior, and become empowered to prepare the family and child to enter school ready to learn.
Fall 2021 dates are Tuesdays Sept. 14 through Nov. 30.

Golf Tournament scheduled for Sept. 15
Support the Troops Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 15.
It will be held at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska, Wis., starting at noon Sept. 15.
The tournament includes lunch (starting at 11 a.m. during registration), awards, and door prizes. The cost is $125 for individual participants and $500 for a team of four.
The event is organized by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

Insurance 101 class planned for Sept. 16
Army Community Service (ACS) will host a class covering various types of insurance Sept. 16 at McCoy’s Community Center.
The presentation will offer an in-depth look at basic automobile, homeowners, and renters insurance. Subject matter will include: understanding your declarations page, how to determine if you are over/underinsured, coverage interpretation, understanding policy conditions and exclusions, as well as other miscellaneous information.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own policies to help assimilate the course information and better understand what coverages they have purchased. Ample time will be allowed for questions.
Two sessions of the class are available: 8 a.m. to noon and noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 16. Registration is required by Sept. 15.

‘Being Bullied’ workshop set for Sept. 21
Army Community Service and The Parenting Place are hosting a workshop about bullying 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 21 on Microsoft Teams.
The workshop will let families learn the different types of bullying, causes and impacts of bullying, signs to recognize if your child may be being bullied, and tips for managing bullying.
This workshop is intended for teens and parents to attend together.

Fall Craft Night planned for Sept. 23
A Fall Craft Night for members of the Exceptional Family Member Program is scheduled for Sept. 23.
This is a great opportunity for parents with Exceptional Family Members to meet and exchange information, resources, and ideas that meet the unique needs of their children.
This also provides the perfect chance for families to mingle with new families and make new friends.
Activities will include finger painting, canvas painting, making frames, marble painting, and string painting.
Army Community Service events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers, unless otherwise stated.

Spouse employment briefing scheduled for Oct. 27
A military spouse employment briefing is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at Army Community Service, building 2111.
This workshop helps military spouses better understand the Department of the Army hiring system.
The workshop will identify federal hiring programs to support military spouses, provide assistance with USA Jobs applications, describe the key components of a federal resume, and discuss the NAF CEAT - Transfer Assistance Program.

Bridge closed through Oct. 29
Fort McCoy’s South J Street will be closed through Oct. 29 from South 8th Avenue to South 9th Avenue for construction of a new bridge over Tarr Creek, Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works (DPW) officials said.
The suggested detour is to jog to the west utilizing South 8th Avenue, South F Street and South 9th Avenue.
