The Army Education Center's (AEC) mission is to vigorously promote lifelong learning opportunities, which will sharpen the competitive edge of the Army by providing and managing quality self-development programs and services.

Basic Skills Education Program (BSEP)

The Basic Skills Education Program (BSEP) is the Army’s primary on-duty education initiative designed to help Soldiers enhance their General Technical (GT) score. The program focuses on developing key skills in word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and arithmetic reasoning.

Testing at the Education Center

Testing is by appointment only; please contact (804) 765-3570 to be scheduled.  

Army Personnel Testing (APT) Examinations offered:

  • Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT) 
  • Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB)
  • Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT)
  • Selection Instrument Flight Training (SIFT) **must have GT score of 110 or higher to test for SIFT**
  • Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)  Prep for TABE with Online Tools Training

Available 24/7 and provides online educational services.

ArmyIgnitEd automates many of the paper-based processes Soldiers historically conducted with an education counselor; common requests include:

  • Tuition assistance (TA)
  • Class enrollment, both classroom and distance learning
  • Counseling requests (academic, vocational, or in/out processing)
  • Military withdrawal questions and requests
  • Recoupment
  • Statement of Understanding
  • Credentialing Assistance (CA):

Multi-Use Learning Facility

The MLF computer lab provides active duty, family members, and other on post employees access to a desktop computer system and printer, without the need of a common access card (CAC).
