Provide Command and Control, Personnel Administration, Logistical Support and Training of Military Police Soldiers in Support of Installation Law Enforcement Operations on Fort Lee, Virginia. On Order, deploy Military Police specialty teams in support of worldwide contingency operations.

• Constituted 24 August 1944 in the Army of the United States as the 317^th Military Police Escort Guard Section
• Activated 1 December 1944 in Italy
• Redesignated 3 April 1945 as the 317^th Military Police Escort Guard Section
• Disbanded 19 October 1945 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee
• Reconstituted 21 July 1964 in the Regular Army as the 217^th Military Police Detachment
• Activated 1 September 1964 at Fort Holabird, Maryland
• Inactivated 29 June 1973 at Fort Holabird, Maryland
• Activated 16 June 2000 at Fort Lee, Virginia
