Tax Preparation Services will no longer be available in-person at Client Legal Services in Korea starting with the 2023 filing season as per HQDA. Soldiers, Families and Retirees can find tax preparation assistance through Military One Source (MilTax) or through the Internal Revenue Service. Our legal assistance attorneys remain available to answer any substantive tax questions (e.g. tax controversies or issues pending before the IRS).

Client Legal Services offers a variety of legal services in the following areas: Legal Assistance, Marriage Services, A-3 Visa/SOFA Stamp Services, Immigration and Naturalization Services, SOFA Liaison Services, and Claims Services.

Legal Assistance is available to all active duty Service Members and their dependents, military retirees and their dependents, DoD/DoDDS civilian employees and their dependents, and US civilian contractors if DoD is contractually obligated to provide legal services-service can be limited. These services include, but are not limited to: family law issues, including marriage, separation, divorce, financial non-support, child custody and visitation, and adoption; estate law, including wills and advance medical directives; economic matters, such as debt and non-governmental claims; and military administrative issues pertaining to line of duty investigations, financial liability investigations, and evaluation reports. While many of the services provided by Client Legal Services require clients to schedule an appointment with an attorney, patrons may also have documents notarized, obtain powers of attorney, and take advantage of many other minor services on a walk-in basis.

Marriage Services is available to all Service Members, military retirees, DoD/DoDDS civilian employees, and US civilian contractors if DoD is contractually obligated to provide legal services, who are seeking to be married in Korea by ensuring they have the appropriate required documentation, comply with USFK Regulation 600-240 (if applicable), and ensuring they meet the requirements set forth under Korean Law. The provided services include providing initial guidance on required documentation, reviewing the applications and supporting documents, notarizing and serving as witnesses on required documentation, and creating and distributing handouts which detail the requirements of the entire marriage process.

A-3 Visa/SOFA Stamp formats and procedures are provided to all Service Members, DoD/DoDDS civilian employees, and US civilian contractors if DoD is contractually obligated to provide legal services), to assist with the process.

Immigration and Naturalization issues are not personally handled, but limited information is provided to all Service Members, military retirees, DoD/DoDDS civilian employees, and US civilian contractors if DoD is contractually obligated to provide legal services, as acquired, to assist the community with inquires we typically receive.

SOFA Liaison Services is available to all active duty Service Members and their dependents, DoD/DoDDS civilian employees and their dependents, and US civilian contractors and their dependents, to provide advice and guidance with the Korean police, prosecutor, and criminal justice process.

Claims Services is available to any individual, US or foreign national, authorized to file a claim for loss or damage of personal property incident to service; loss or damage of personal property, or personal injury, due to negligence of US Government employees; or for willful damage or wrongful taking of property by an active-duty Service Member.
