Newcomers

In-Processing

Welcome to Fort Hamilton, located in the southwestern corner of Brooklyn, New York, surrounded by the communities of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst, which places us in the middle of the New York City Metropolitan area. We are the only active duty military installation in the area, thus we are the Face of America's Army in New York City.

All incoming military and civilian personnel must report to the Visitor's Center located on 101st Street and Sterling Drive next to the Main Gate. All personnel are required to have a visitors pass on the installation. To see what's required to access the post, please visit the Visitor Center's page.

Newly arriving Soldiers should report to the Battalion or Brigade S-1 of the unit to begin inprocessing and to be given a sponsor if one has not been issued prior to arrival. Soldiers assigned to the Fort Hamilton Garrison are to report to Building 114 White Ave. In-processing takes place Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.-4:00 p.m., and Thursday's 1:15 p.m.-4:00 p.m. The center offers one-stop service to all incoming permanent party Soldiers. Services include the processing of personnel records, finance, a briefing given by the Alcohol /Drug Prevention and Control Program Manager and a briefing provided by Army Community Services to include Reentry issues, community information and ACS overview.

Newly assigned Civilian employees should report to the Directorate of Human Resources located at 114 White Ave.

Sponsor Support. If a sponsor was not provided prior to the Soldier/Families’ arrival, the gaining unit will provide a reactionary sponsor to assist in the acclimation of the newcomer. Army Community Services provides unit sponsorship training on a monthly basis upon request, and will provide Welcome Packets.  ACS will act as a sponsor to those Soldiers and Family Members as needed.

ACS also operates a Lending Closet that is stocked with household items that newly arrived Service Members as well as Civilian employees may borrow. The Relocation Readiness Program Manager is also available to aid and assist incoming personnel with settling in services. Smooth transition of our Soldiers, Family members and Civilian employees is a joint effort of all ACS programs; therefore, referrals will be given to programs not only in ACS but outside agencies as well when warranted.
