Access to Fort Hamilton
All persons age 18 and over must have a valid purpose and authorized state or government issued photographic (photo) Identification (ID) for access to Fort Hamilton. Persons age 17 and under are not required to present photo ID unless operating a motor vehicle. Vehicle operators are required to present a valid registration and insurance card.Persons requesting access onto Fort Hamilton must present an ID card that is compliant with Homeland Security's Real ID Act.
Installation access cards from other DoD installations (for example: Tinker Air Force Base, Sheppard Air Force Base, Fort Hood) do not meet the criteria for installation access. Fort Hamilton has a “stand alone” installation access process and does not share information with other DoD installations.

The Background Check
Per Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, all visitors and uncleared contractors desiring access to Fort Hamilton must be vetted through the National Crime Information Center Interstate Identification Index. NCIC III is the Army's baseline background check for entrance onto Army installations for Non-Common Access Card (CAC) holders.
This background check is required for all visitors to the installation ages 18 and above who want un-escorted access to post. Personnel under the age of 18 will not have a NCIC-III check conducted, however must be accompanied by someone over 18 years of age.
The installation commander will, in the absence of an approved waiver, deny pass cards for uncleared contractors, subcontractors and visitors based on the results of the NCIC III check.
The following are reasons for denied access to include, but not limited to:
Have been convicted of crimes encompassing sexual assault, armed robbery, rape, child molestation, production or possession of child pornography, trafficking in humans, drug possession with intent to sell or drug distribution. Have a U.S. conviction of espionage, sabotage, treason, terrorism or murder. Registered sex offender. Convicted of a felony within the past 10 years, regardless of the offense or violation or convicted of a felony firearms or explosives violation. Have engaged in acts or activities designed to overthrow the U.S. Government by force. Are identified in the TSDB as known to be or suspected of being a terrorist or belonging to an organization with known links to terrorism or support of terrorist activity. When this capability becomes available to DoD, security personnel performing installation access control personnel will strictly follow the Federal Bureaus on Investigation's published engagement protocols. Convicted of 3 or more misdemeanors within the last 5 years.
Secure Holding and Safe Haven for Transportation Service Providers transporting DoD Shipments of Arms, Ammunition & Explosives
Fort Hamilton is a DoD installation designated to provide protective services related to Secure Holding and Safe Haven for Transportation Service Providers transporting DoD shipments of Arms, Ammunition & Explosives as well as classified information, and Controlled Cryptographic Items.
All shipments will enter at the main entrance, 101st Street Gate and Fort Hamilton. Those shipments known in advance (i.e. not due to an emergent condition), driver’s information will be provided to the DES two weeks prior to arrival with a completed background form for vetting purposes. AA&E shipments will be provided appropriate secure holding protection commensurate with the sensitivity category of the delivered items.
Commercial shipments destined for Fort Hamilton arriving after normal working hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), weekends and/or holidays, drivers who request Safe Haven may park the trailer and/or vehicle with trailer attached in designated area.
Drivers or passenger must remain with vehicle and trailer. DES personnel will inform drivers that the carrier is still responsible for shipment until such time as authorized receiving personnel accept delivery and sign for the shipment on the next duty day. DES personnel, under no circumstances, will take receipt of the shipment or any documents from vehicle driver(s). DES personnel will only check documents to ensure shipment is for Fort Hamilton.
Driver(s) will remain with the shipment until able to continue onto their destination.
