COL Clay M. Huffman

COL Clay Huffman assumed duties as the Garrison Commander of U.S. Army Support Activity, Fort Dix (ASA-Fort Dix) and Deputy Commander-Army, Joint Base-McGuire- Dix-Lakehurst (JB–MDL), in July 2026.
Originally from Fremont, Ohio, COL Huffman was commissioned into the Military Intelligence Corps after graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Clemson University in 2004. His military career spans 22 years across all three U.S. Army components. Prior to taking command, he served as the Director, Commander’s Action Group, U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM).   
 
COL Huffman’s past assignments include the Joint Intelligence Command, USAFRICOM (JICAF) Foreign Influence Division Chief, and, later, Director of Operations, JICAF / USAFRICOM J22 Division Chief; Battalion Commander, North Central Army Reserve Intelligence Support Center / Fort Sheridan Joint Reserve Intelligence Center; Aide-de-Camp and, later, Executive Officer to the Chief of Army Reserve / Commanding General, U.S. Army Reserve Command; Executive Officer, 549th Military Intelligence Battalion; Force Integration Chief, Military Intelligence Readiness Command; Intelligence Officer, 3100 Strategic Intelligence Group; Commander, A Company (MI), 30th Special Troops Battalion; and multiple roles in 3-71 Cavalry Squadron, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, to include S2, C Troop Executive Officer, and Assistant S2.
 
He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College (USAWC), U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Joint and Combined Warfighting School, Defense Strategy Course, U.S. Army Force Management Course, Red Team Leader’s Course, Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course, Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, and U.S. Army Airborne School. He holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the USAWC, Master of Arts in Intelligence Studies from the American Military University, and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Geography Secondary Education from Clemson University.
 

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), Parachutist Badge, Combat Action Badge, and Knowlton Award.

COL Huffman is happily married to his wife, Karen, and they have two children: Weston and Violet.
