4IDSB History
In July 2005, the unit was re-designated as the 4th Sustainment Brigade (4th SB). On Oct. 15, 2005, the 4th SB replaced the 46th Corps Support Group from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, to provide logistical support throughout the Baghdad area. Throughout 2006, the command was responsible for the training of support units for the Iraqi Army. They returned to Fort Hood, Texas, upon completion of the tour.
In February 2011, the 4th SB provided continuous support during Operation New Dawn from Contingency Operating Base Adder, Tallil, Iraq. On July 15, the 4th Sustainment Brigade was deactivated at Fort Hood, Texas, and the 43rd Sustainment Brigade (43rd SB) was deactivated at Fort Carson, Colorado. The 43rd SB Soldiers assumed the lineage and honors of the 4th SB and the unit was re-designated as the 4th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade (4ID SB). The 4ID SB assumed the former nickname of the unit it replaced, the 43rd SB, the “Rough Riders”.
In August 2017, the Rough Riders deployed in support of FEMA’s Hurricane Harvey recovery operations in Houstons. In September 2019 they again deployed in support of FEMA’s Hurricane Irma and Maria recovery operations in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In October 2018 the 4th ID SB answered the nation’s call to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection along the U.S. Southern Border.
Throughout 2019 and 2020, the 4ID Sustainment Brigade deployed elements across the world, including to United States Central Command in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. The 4ID Sustainment Brigade also deployed multiple Forward Assurance and Support Teams in response to COVID-19 Pandemic - Defense Support to Civilian Authorities missions.
