Joe Wyka, Deputy to the Garrison Commander

Joe Wyka hails from Lucas, Ohio, and was commissioned as an engineer officer in 1994. His initial assignment was to the 10th Engineer/ 9th Engineer Battalions in Schweinfurt, Germany, where he deployed to Bosnia as part of the Implementation Force IFOR. Assigned next to Fort Leonard Wood he commanded an Advanced Individual Training company, D/169th Engineering Battalion. After leaving active duty in 2000 he returned to Ohio where he was selected as Chief Deputy City Engineer of the City of Mansfield, Ohio, and served eight years before returning to the Army as engineering division chief for Directorate of Public Works in 2008 at Fort Carson, Colorado. During this time Wyka served a developmental assignment as the Director of Public Works for U.S Army Support Activity Soto Cano, Joint Task Force Bravo in Honduras.
In 2013 Wyka accepted a position as the Chief Engineer for the Hale Koa Hotel, Armed Forces Recreation Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. After this tour he returned to Fort Carson as the DPW Operations & Maintenance Chief and was later re-assigned to his position as Engineering Division Chief.
In 2019 Wyka was selected as the Director of Public Works, Fort Novosel, Alabama where he served until his recent selection to return to Fort Carson as the DPW in 2020 and assignment as Acting Deputy Garrison Commander in 2024.
Wyka holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University and a Masters of Science Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri, Rolla. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Colorado. He is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute Leadership for a Democratic Society program, and the Partnership for Public Service Excellence in Government courses.
