Medic Sustainment 24 hour

Medic Sustainment 24 hour

MEDIC SUST 24 is a three-day advanced skills familiarization course designed for 68Ws who have completed TC 8-800 requirements and require 24 additional CEUs. Current TCCC and PFC standards and practice will be integrated into POI. The course consists of advanced trauma management skills. All Soldiers that complete training will receive a certificate for 24 CEUs. Maximum class is 24.

Medics must have current TC 8-800 training completed before enrolling in the course. They are highly encouraged to go through Fort Carson’s MSTC prior to attendance to ensure the best outcomes possible. If a medic is identified as not having the foundational knowledge needed to be successful in the Medic Sustainment Course there will be an attempt to reschedule them to the next TC 8-800 course and the corresponding Medic Sustainment as permitted by their unit leadership. Medics right out of AIT should not attend this course without going through TC 8-800 at a MSTC even if the hours are not required. AIT does not prepare them for the advanced skills they learn in this course.

Basic Lifesaving

Basic Lifesaving

The Fort Carson MSTC teaches American Red Cross (ARC) BLS. This course is for health care professionals. It is a half-day card-producing course and no CEUs are awarded. ARC’s course is free and the maximum class size is 24.

BLS trains students to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

Department of the Army civilian employees are authorized to attend BLS courses at the MSTC.

The MSTC also offers the ARC course called CPR/AED which is for non-medical professionals to be certified in CPR. This course is open to everyone including DA Civilians and is offered once a month.

Combat Life Saver

Combat Life Saver

Combat Lifesaver is provided for units that do not have organic medical personnel. Assigned medics are responsible for providing training to their unit.

The CLS course is 4 days and Soldiers completing the course will receive a certificate of training. Combat life saver is a bridge between the self-aid/buddy aid (first aid) training given to all Soldiers and the medical training given to a 68W. The combat life saver is a non-medical Soldier who provides lifesaving measures as a secondary mission. The combat life saver may also assist the combat medic in providing care and preparing casualties for evacuation.

Military personnel who attend CLS at the Fort Carson MSTC are registered in ATRRS.

Non-military can do a one day CLS course, available upon request. Class minimum of four personnel is mandatory.
