Why: Let’s get into the Holiday spirit on Fort Bliss! Come join us in lighting up the Post Christmas Tree. Let’s usher in the 2024 holiday season in celebration of peace, joy, love and goodwill across our military and civilian community. Santa will be there, escorted by our own Fort Bliss Fire Department, while the 1st Armored Division Band Quintet and Choir will provide musical entertainment. Light refreshments will be available after the event.
20240717-001, 1st Armored Division announces deployment readiness exercise
FORT BLISS, Texas – The 1st Armored Division was directed to conduct an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise at 10 a.m. on July 17, 2024 to test the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division’s ability to alert, recall, and deploy under emergency conditions.
The Army routinely conducts Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercises to assess its ability to provide the National Command Authority Army ground forces with no notice or on short notice. The Army trains to provide extremely capable and agile forces to meet combatant commander requirements. EDREs are routine training events in the Army and are not conducted in response to any ongoing political or military situation.
During this EDRE, Elements of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team will deploy to the USINDOPACOM area of operations. Details about the location and duration of this exercise will be released after the training unit safely arrives and concludes specific training events.

What: Conducts a Change of Command Ceremony for Maj. Gen. James P. Isenhower III and Maj. Gen. Curtis D. Taylor.
When: Thursday, July 11, 8 – 9 a.m.
Where: 1st Armored Division Parade Field in front of Division Headquarters, 11685 Sergeant Major Blvd., Fort Bliss, Texas 79918
Why: The change of command ceremony is an Army tradition that formally recognizes the transition of authority from one commander to the next. Maj. Gen. James Isenhower is relinquishing command of the of 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss to Maj. Gen. Curtis Taylor.
Isenhower has served as the commanding general of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss for the past two years. He assumed command in July 2022. During his tenure, he ensured that Fort Bliss returned to full operational capacity and that the close relationships it has with the City of El Paso and surrounding communities were re-established following the COVID-19 pandemic. This included participating in city events, holding Army events in El Paso, and inviting the community to participate in activities at Fort Bliss. Isenhower will serve his next assignment as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, United States Army, Washington, D.C.
Taylor is coming to Fort Bliss after serving as the commanding general of the National Training Center and Fort Irwin, California.

What: Salute to the Union and Pop goes the Fort Independence Day Celebration
Who: Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation
When: July 4, 3 p.m.
Where: Biggs Park, 11388 Sergeant Major Boulevard
Why: Join Fort Bliss as we celebrate the 248th year of American Independence. The celebration begins at 3:30 p.m. with a hotdog eating contest featuring Joey Chestnut going against some Fort Bliss Soldiers. There will be a meet and greet with Joey at 3:45 p.m. The celebration continues with the Salute to the Union ceremony to honor the Republic’s states and territories as their respective colors are marched in with pomp and circumstance.
This will be promptly followed with the festivities of the Pop goes the Fort Independence Day celebration. Live music, food, and many entertainment activities in abundance for everyone. Fireworks begin at 8:30 p.m.
Come join us in celebrating our independence. Gate opens at 3 p.m., ceremony starts at 4:30 p.m., and festival starts at 6 p.m.

Why: Let’s get into the Christmas Holiday spirit and join us in lighting up the Post Christmas Tree. Let’s usher in the 2023 holiday season in celebration of peace, joy, love, and goodwill across our military and civilian community. A holiday visit from everyone’s favorite personality will be here to spread Christmas joy. Santa will be escorted by our own Fort Bliss Fire Department heroes. The 1st Armored Division Band Quintet and Choir will provide musical entertainment for the event. So, bring your inner child, oh and children, to greet Jolly Ole’ Saint Nick. Light refreshments will be available after the tree lighting ceremony.

What: Prisoner of War and Missing in Action Recognition Day Ceremony
Who: Maj. Gen. James P. Isenhower III, Commanding General 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss
When: Sept. 15, 9 a.m.
Where: Memorial Circle, Fort Bliss, Texas
Why: National POW/MIA Recognition Day established in 1979 through a proclamation signed by President Jimmy Carter. Since then, each subsequent president has issued an annual proclamation commemorating the third Friday in September as National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Why: The Employment Readiness Program provides job search assistance and
referral services for Soldiers and Family members. Operated through the Army Community Service Center, ERP helps Soldiers, spouses, surviving spouses, DOD civilians, and family members gain the competitive edge needed for employment by providing employment information in the areas of job search skills, education, training, transition, and volunteer opportunities. The hiring fair is open to transitioning services members, their family members, retirees, and DOD civilians.
