Welcome to the 1AD Division Sustainment Brigade, the premier Sustainment Brigade in the United States Army. The 1AD Division Sustainment BDE is prepared to deploy and provide support to units world-wide. The officers, non-commisioned officers and Soldiers of the 1AD Division Sustainment BDE are professional, skilled warriors who contine to set the standard every day.

Mission
Provide mission command of assigned, attached, and OPCON Echelons Above Brigade sustainment units and synchronize distribution and sustainment operations in support of 1st Armored Division, and other aligned
units. On order, rapidly deploy to designated contingency areas; receive, integrate, and provide mission command of sustainment units providing operational and tactical sustainment; and perform theater opening, theater distribution, and sustainment operations in support of Unified Land Operations.

History

Headquarters and Headquarters Company and Band, Support Command, 1st Armored Division was originally constituted on Jan. 1, 1942, in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1st Armored Division Trains. It was first activated on Jan. 10, 1942, at Fort Knox, Kentucky, to sustain the 1st Armored Division.

Reorganized and designated on Jan. 24, 1942, as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Armored Division Trains. The unit was inactivated on April 25, 1946, at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, and activated on March 7, 1951, at Fort Hood (known as Fort Cavazos since April 2023), Texas.

On Feb. 15, 1957, the command was reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1st Armored Division Trains.

On Feb. 3, 1962, the brigade consolidated with the 1st Armored Division Band (organized in 1943) and was redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Band, 1st Armored Division Support Command. Then on April 15, 1968, the unit was reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company and Band, 1st Armored Division Support Command.

On Aug. 21, 1972, the unit was yet reorganized and redesignated (less Band-hereafter separate lineage) as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Armored Division Support Command in Germany to sustain the 1st Armored Division at multiple locations and across multiple operational deployments to include Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Joint Endeavor, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The brigade inactivated Oct. 15, 2008.

On May 16, 2015, the brigade was reactivated and redesignated as Headquarters and Special Troops Battalion, 1st Armored Division Sustainment Brigade and activated at Fort Bliss, Texas. The brigade headquarters deployed in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel from May 2015-February 2016. The brigade then deployed to Afghanistan in support of the Resolute Support mission and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in May 2017. The brigade again deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in October 2019-June 2020.

In Feburary 2022, the 1AD Sustainment Brigade changed its name to  1AD Division Sustainment Brigade.
