Colonel Scott P. Knight Jr.

Chief of Staff, 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss

Col. Scott P. Knight Jr., assumed the role of Chief of Staff, 1st Armored Division July 16, 2021. He received his commission and bachelor’s degree in Topographical Engineering from the United States Military Academy in 1996, and completed his Master of Public Administration at City University of New York in 2008. He also received a Master of Strategic Studies from the Air War College in 2017.

Prior to assuming the role of Chief of Staff, Col. Knight commanded the 2d Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, now converted to the 2d Stryker Brigade Combat Team. He served in multiple Army command and staff appointments as an Infantry Officer with multiple operational assignments at the tactical and operational level. These included assignments to South Korea as a Platoon Leader and Battalion Adjutant; to Fort Stewart, Georgia, as a Rifle Company then Headquarters Company Commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom I and III; to Baumholder, Germany, as a Battalion Executive Officer, Brigade Operations Officer and Executive Officer during Operation Enduring Freedom, and to the Republic of Korea as a Battalion Commander and Division Operations Officer. Col. Knight also served jointly within the Department of Defense as the Director of Expeditionary Support at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. He also served in Army Force Generation assignments contributing to force generation for Army Enlisted Soldiers at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and for future Officers at the United States Military Academy.

His military education includes the Infantry Officer’s Basic Course, Captain’s Career Course, and the Combined Arms Service and Staff School as a company grade officer. His field grade education includes attendance at the Command General and Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Advanced Command and Staff Course, Joint Staff Command and Staff College, Shrivenham, United Kingdom; United States Air Force War College. His specialty training includes the Advanced Land Navigation Course, Infantry Mortar Leader’s Course, the Bradley Leader’s Course, and Ranger School.

Col. Knight’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), NATO Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
