Pick up some daffodils, but respect the rules

Chièvres, Belgium -- It is springtime, and flowers are blooming all over the place. If you would like to stroll in the woods and pick up some flowers, please know that there are some rules concerning flowers in general and daffodils in particular.

Daffodil is the official name for any flower that falls under the genus Narcissus. It is a classic spring flower, white or yellow, blooming from February to May.

A specific type of daffodils, the jonquil, was well-known to ancient civilizations because of their medicinal and botanical properties. They are usually found in meadows or woods in southern Europe or in the North of Africa.

Daffodil picking is strictly regulated in Wallonia. A person is only allowed to gather two bunches (two handfuls) per day. Make sure you don't damage the bulbs to allow the daffodil to bloom again next year. And of course, be sure you have the authorization from the owner.

One of the best places to find daffodils close to Chièvres is the place called "Caillou-qui-Bique" on Chemin du Caillou qui Bique, 21 in Honnelles. You can also find daffodils in many other places, such as the Huizingen park (20 minutes from Brussels).
