In Memoriam: Kevin Simon

It is with deep sadness to inform the community that Kevin Simon, group practice manager at the SHAPE Healthcare Facility, passed away in March 2019.

Kevin D. Simon was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. He enlisted into the Army Reserves as a 91W, medical specialist, in December 1989. He went on to serve seven years on active-duty from 1996 to 2003. Simon was honorably discharged as a sergeant and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2), NATO Medal, Army Lapel and a Kosovo Campaign Medal.

Following his departure from the U.S. Army in 2003, Simon earned a bachelor of science in psychology and a master of science in human resources.

Simon served as the lead Air Force sustainment trainer in Ramstein, Germany; lead Army sustainment consultant for William Beaumont Hospital; lead clinical consultant for the Department of the Army in Heidelberg, Wiesbaden, and Fort Benning; lead clinical systems consultant at Naval Hospital Oak Harbor. In the spring 2018, he joined the SHAPE Healthcare Facility as the group practice manager.

Gregarious and unreserved, Simon was a direct communicator and never shy to share his unique and singular sense of humor. Also a loving father, he spent many of his weekends traveling to Germany to be with his youngest son. When Simon was not off exploring the backroads on his motorcycle, he enjoyed cooking and photography. He also was a fan of 80's music.

He is survived by one daughter and four sons.

A memorial service was held for Simon March 21 at the SHAPE Community Chapel. If you would like to send condolences to the Simon family, please contact the Religious Support Office at DSN 314-597-5568 or +32(0)68-25-5568.
