Celebrate independence with USAG Benelux this year

U.S. Army Garrison Benelux is scheduled to celebrate the independence of the United States from 5 to 9 p.m. July 3 at its Brussels location, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 4 at Chièvres Air Base and from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 4 at its Brunssum, the Netherlands location.
At the USAG Benelux – Brussels event from 5 to 9 p.m. July 3, the celebration takes place at the 3 Star Restaurant and the patio. Barbecue and drinks will be available. The SHAPE International Band is scheduled to play, and the American Legion Auxiliary will host a desert booth with apple and cherry pie and peach cobbler. A balloon artist from the NATO Top 3 will also be there.

At the Chièvres Air Base event starts at 10 a.m. July 4 when military service members are invited to take part in the Freedom Fighter Obstacle Run.
The obstacle course, which is $15 to register and includes a T-shirt, will start in phases. The first phase, for both U.S. and NATO service members starts at 10:15 a.m. A second phase for all other community members 10 years and older starts at noon. Registration for the race is mandatory. For COVID-19 preventive measures, starts are staggered to 25 participants at a time.
Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, who set up the race, will also serve food at the event. Revelers can also visit the Bene Brew Café and Pub for food and beverages.
The event kicks off at noon.
There will also comic book cosplayers, a mechanical bull provided by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, a cornhole tournament and more.

At the USAG Benelux – Brunssum event from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a patriotic children’s bicycle parade in front of the post office. Entry for the event is free but everyone wishing for a picnic space must register now through July 1.
There will also burgers and hot dogs, Frito pies, pulled chicken sandwiches, root beer floats, live music and cornhole and other yard games, bounce houses for children, sidewalk calking, and more.
