5 reasons to attend the Benelux Welcome Events
CHIÈVRES, Belgium -- As newcomers arrive to U.S. Army Garrison Benelux this summer, they will get an opportunity to explore different community organizations and services. Welcome events will be held Aug. 10 (Chièvres/SHAPE), Aug. 17 (Schinnen/JFC Brunssum) and Aug. 30 (Brussels).
Each welcome event is a time for representatives from garrison activities and facilities, community programs, Family Readiness Groups, private organizations and clubs to gather in one spot so newcomers can learn more about their new duty station. The events are open to all U.S. and U.S. NATO ID cardholders and their family members.
Below are five reasons why you should go to the Benelux Welcome Events:
1. Meet new people.
Every day, there are people around the world moving to USAG Benelux locations. You can meet people who are navigating through the same stages as you in finding their niche in the Benelux. These people could be your new co-workers, neighbors or friends.
2. Discover the top places for social activities.
The welcome events are held in locations where opportunities of fun are endless. The SHAPE Fest Tent is a prime location for outdoor community events such as Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s Dogs’ Day Out on Aug. 31 and SHAPE Fest in Sept. 6-7. Brussels’ 3 Star Recreation Center is the social and dining spot for the community. The center has weekly meal specials including Thursday dinner nights, community movie nights, line dancing, and karaoke nights. In Schinnen, Outdoor Recreation and Equipment Rental is another great spot to discover recreational activities available in the Tri-Border area. Get familiar with these places as you will probably frequent them many times while you are here.
3. Get involved in the community.
You will have face time with representatives from garrison organizations as well as private organizations. Perhaps you are looking to volunteer your time for a cause that you are passionate about? Or you want to join a club and pursue a hobby? Whatever your interests are, there are many organizations to join in the Benelux.
4. Enjoy free activities.
Are you trying to find a family activity without breaking the bank? Admission is free for the events. In addition to the information booths, there are other activities for the whole family so everyone will be entertained.
5. Understand the meaning of “We Deliver!”
Being a part of the Benelux team means joining an international military community dedicated to building a Strong Europe. It is also a unique experience to be immersed in one of the most historic and cultural centers in the world. While it may seem overwhelming at first to be in the Benelux, your mindset will change as you become familiar with the community. Welcome events are one-stop shops in discovering the wealth of services delivered to the Benelux community.
The events are held at the following dates, times and locations:
