Schools

Families affiliated with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of State have the opportunity to send their children to the Brussels American School (Kindergarten to 12th grade); local Belgian schools (pre-school to  12th grade - tuition free) and local international schools (pre-school to  12th grade -  tuition required).

The international school is a unique institution, operating under the authority of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). The U.S. sections operate under the support of the Department of Defense Education Activity - Europe Region (DODEA-Europe). The SHAPE American School sections come under the purview of the Europe West District offices located in Brussels, Belgium one of three DoDEA-Europe operating districts.

Students moving to the Tri-Border area will most likely attend AFNORTH International School. AFNORTH Elementary and Middle/High Schools are Department of Defense Education Activities Schools (DODEA). AFNORTH International School comprises of the American, British, Canadian or German schools sections. Each country section follows their National Curriculum and Standards.

The AFNORTH American Elementary and Middle/High School sections are inspected by the American Department of Defense Education Activity and meet and exceed the K-12th grade American educational requirements.
