Families affiliated with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of State have the opportunity to send their children to the Brussels American School (Kindergarten to 12th grade); local Belgian schools (pre-school to  12th grade - tuition free) and local international schools (pre-school to  12th grade -  tuition required).

CHIÈVRES AIR BASE AND SHAPE

The international school is a unique institution, operating under the authority of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). The U.S. sections operate under the support of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools - Europe Region (DODDS-Europe). The SHAPE American School sections come under the purview of the Isles District offices near Lakenheath, England, one of five DoDDS-Europe operating districts:

SCHINNEN, JFC BRUNSSUM, EYGELSHOVEN AND ZUTENDAAL

Students moving to the Tri-Border area will most likely attend AFNORTH International School. AFNORTH is not a Department of Defense Dependent School (DODDS). AFNORTH is an international school using a combined U.S., Canadian and British curriculum. 

AFNORTH is inspected by the American Department of Defense Education Authority and meets and exceeds the American educational requirements up to and including the 12th grade.
