Brig. Gen. Louis M. Lapointe

Brigadier General Louis Lapointe grew up in Shawinigan-Sud, Quebec. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1991 as an infantry officer at Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Saint-Jean.

As a junior officer he served in the Royal 22e Régiment as a mechanized and airborne Platoon Commander. As a junior officer he also completed an extra regimental employment as an instructor at the Infantry School. Brigadier General Lapointe served as a company commander in 1st Battalion Royal 22e Régiment and commanded the battalion from 2011 until 2013. Following his unit command, he was transferred to Garrison Petawawa to be the Deputy Commander of the 4th Canadian Division Support Group until 2015.

During his career, Brigadier General Lapointe held different staff appointments with the 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, the Canadian Army Headquarter and the Strategic Joint Staff. Brigadier General Lapointe deployed on the United Nations security mission in Haiti in 1997, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, with Task Force 3 07 in 2007 and on various domestic operations such as the Red River Floods in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1997 and the Ice Storm in 1998.
Of note, Brigadier General Lapointe completed the U.S. Army Ranger course in 2003 and was awarded the Ralph Puckett and William O. Darby awards. In 2007, during his deployment to Afghanistan, he was awarded the Medal of Military Valour and the Meritorious Service Medal for his performance as the Commander of the Police Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (P-OMLT).

Brigadier General Lapointe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Master in Defence Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Kingston. He is in the process of completing his master in public administration. He is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff program 36 and the National Security Program 9.
In 2017, after a short service as the Army G3, Brigadier General Lapointe became the Commander of 4th Canadian Division Support Group. Following three years of command in Petawawa, he is promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and posted to the United States of America where he will be the Deputy Commanding General – Operations for the United States Army Alaska (USARAK).

Brigadier General Lapointe is moving to Anchorage with his awesome spouse, Lieutenant-Colonel Angie Lapointe and their two daughters Charlotte and Chloé.
