The 11th Airborne Division was historically activated on 25 February, 1943, during World War II. Following major roles in the Pacific Theater, the Division also pioneered Air Assault tactics, techniques and procedures as the 11th Air Assault Division (Test), and was eventually inactivated on July 3rd, 1965. On June 6th, 2022, the 11th Airborne Division, 1st Brigade, 11th Airborne Division, and 2nd Brigade, 11th Airborne Division, were activated at subsequent ceremonies on Fort Wainwright and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. McConnville said "I expect every soldier of this Division to be masters of their craft, of Arctic Warfare," further defining the mission set of the Arctic Angels. To not only operate in extreme cold weather and mountainous terrain, but to build and demonstrate mastery of it.

Army Counterintelligence conducts investigations, operations, collections, analysis and production, and technical services and support activities to detect, identify, counter, exploit, and neutralize foreign intelligence entities and foreign terrorist organizations to U.S. Army personnel, equities, and systems throughout the interior of Alaska, to include Fort Wainwright and Fort Greely.
Provides Cold Weather and Mountain Warfare training to U.S. military and designated personnel, in order to enhance war-fighting capabilities of US and Coalition partners. O/O assists in rescue and recovery operations worldwide. Conduct outreach missions that incorporate mountain and cold regions operations in support of the USPACOM Theater Security Cooperation's Plan.
The U.S. Army Cold Regions Test Center plans and conducts developmental testing, with an emphasis on Soldier participation, in the snow, extreme cold, and sub-arctic natural environment, in order to provide acquisition and Army leadership with timely, accurate, and relevant information relating to system performance.
