Mr. Michael R. Mathews assumed his current position as Deputy Manager, Fort Sam Houston, TX on 23 May 2022. He leads the Army organization that delivers Army-retained installation support services on the largest Joint Base in the United States. 

Mr. Mathews has held a variety of leadership positions throughout his military career, culminating as Garrison Command Sergeant Major, Fort Riley, Kansas.  Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Mathews served as the Deputy Manager, Fort Sam Houston, TX on 15 April 2019.  He also served as the Deputy Garrison Manager, Hohenfels, Germany, Deputy Manager, Fort Sam Houston TX.  Mr. Mathews also severed as Region Installation Support Program Manager for Fort Hood, Texas.  Prior to this, he served with IMCOM Central Region Operations Division, Installation Management Command, West Region, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.  Mr. Mathews holds an MBA (Management), University of Mary, a Bachelor of Science, Social Services, Upper Iowa University and an Associate of General Studies, Barton County Community College.

Mr. Mathews awards include Army Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal-2nd Award, Army Commendation Medal-6th Award, Army Achievement Medal-7th Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal GWOT Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon Overseas Service Ribbon, IRAQ Service medal, Kuwait Service Medal, Recruiter of the Year, Drill Sergeant of the Cycle-4th Award, the Combat Action Badge and the Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service award.

He is a member of US Army Sergeants Major Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Association, and the Kentucky Colonel Association. He is married and has two son’s that are both members of the United States Air Force.
