Lt. Col. Matthew R. Stockton, Commander, 1st Battalion, 145th Aviation Regiment
Lt. Col. Matthew R. Stockton, is a native of Kissimmee, Florida, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Aviation branch from Utah Valley University in 2007.
LTC Stockton's early career included serving as an Aeroscout Platoon Leader and an Assistant Operations Officer in the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Drum, New York, during Operation Enduring Freedom. He PCS’d to Fort Rucker where he was assigned to 1st Aviation Brigade as an Aviation Basic Officer Leadership Course Instructor and then selected for command as the HHC/1-223rd Aviation Regiment Company Commander where he dual hatted as an Initial Entry Rotary Wing Instructor Pilot.
Following a broadening assignment as an Exercise Planner with 7th Army Training Command in Germany, he completed seven years of field grade Key Development assignments. Returning to the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) at Fort Drum, he held positions as a Battalion Executive Officer, Brigade Aviation Officer, Brigade Plans Officer, and Brigade Operations Officer during Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. He later returned to Fort Novosel as a Battalion Executive/Operations Officer and then gained two more years of brigade-level experience as the Executive and Operations Officer for the 110th Aviation Brigade before being selected for battalion command.
LTC Stockton is a Master Army Aviator and Combat Action Badge recipient. He is a graduate of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Aviation Captains Career Course, the Army Command and General Staff College, and is qualified in the OH-58 A/C/D, CH-47F, TH-67, and UH-72 helicopters. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Project Management from Utah Valley University and a Master of Science degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, four Air Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, and two Army Achievement Medals.
