Col. Robert J. Holcombe
Col. Robert J. Holcombe commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Aviation Branch upon his graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry/life science. He also holds master’s degrees in national security strategy from the National War College and political science and nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Aviation Maintenance Officer Course, Joint Personnel Recovery Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Aviation Captains Career Course, and the Aviation Officer Basic Course.
Holcombe’s previous assignments include division chief for aviation and contingency operations at the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, Joint Force Headquarters, National Capital Region; battalion commander for the 277th Aviation Support Battalion, Fort Drum, New York; executive officer for the Chief of Staff of U.S. Army Pacific Command in Fort Shafter, Hawaii; executive officer for 2d Squadron, 6 Cavalry Regiment, Wheeler AAF, Hawaii; deputy chief, G3 Aviation, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; stability transition team advisor for the Ninewa Combined Coordination Center, Mosul, Iraq; instructor in the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering at the United States Military Academy; company commander for B Company, 2d Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, and assistant brigade operations officer 4th Brigade (AVN), 1st Infantry Division, Katterbach, Germany; battalion logistics officer and platoon leader, B Company, 1st Battalion, 52d Aviation Regiment, K-16, South Korea; executive officer, D Company, 58th Aviation Regiment, Yongsan, South Korea. His operational deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom II, FOB Speicher and FOB Danger, Tikrit, Iraq and Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn, FOB Diamondback, Ninewa Province, Iraq, and Operation Atlantic Resolve in EUCOM.
Holcombe’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, Korea Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Service Medal. He is a senior army aviator authorized to wear the Airborne Badge and is also member of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (Bronze Awards).
