Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Castro

Command Sergeant Major Michael A. Castro was born in Denton, Texas. He joined the Army in June of 2004 and attended basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis Virginia where he was awarded the MOS of 15Y, Apache AH-64D Armament, Electronics and Avionics Systems Repairer.

CSM Castro assumed command of the United States Army Garrison, Fort Rucker, Alabama on 12 December 2025.

CSM Castro’s previous assignments include Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment, Camp Eagle, Korea as an AH-64D Systems Repairer; Bravo Company, 122nd Aviation Support Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina as an AH-64D Systems Repairer and Squad Leader ISO OIF; Delta Company,  Systems Supervisor; Delta Company 4th Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), Fort Hood, Texas as an AH-64D Technical Inspector in support of OEF; Delta Company 4-501st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Armored Division CAB, Fort Bliss, Texas as the Armament Platoon Sergeant and AH-64D Senior Systems Repair Supervisor ISO OSS 12-13; Alpha Company 1-501st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Armored Division CAB, Fort Bliss Texas as the Alpha Company 1SG ISO OIR 14-15. Fort Knox, Human Resources Command, Enlisted Personnel Management Directorate as the Professional Development NCO for 15R/15Y SGT-SFC of over 2000 NCOs. Headquarters/Alpha Company 1SG for the 3RD Battalion, 39TH Infantry Regiment at Fort Jackson South Carolina as a Basic Combat Training 1SG. 1SG for Echo Company, 501ST Aviation Regiment, MQ-1C, 1-501ST Attack Battalion, 1ST Armored Division CAB Fort Bliss, Texas. BDE Operations SGM for 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. CSM Castro previously served as the Squadron Command Sergeant Major for 1-17 Air Cavalry Squadron of the 82ND Combat Aviation Brigade.

CSM Castro has completed his bachelor’s in Leadership and Workforce Development through the Command and General Staff College. His military education includes the Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course with Commandant’s List, Company 1SG Course, Sergeants Major Course with Commandant’s List, Digital Training Management System User and Master Trainer, Basic Airborne Course, Unmanned Aerial Systems Staff Leaders Course, Master Resilience Trainer Course, Master Resilience Facilitator Course, Sexual Harassment and Assault Prevention Course, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Foundation Instructor/Facilitator Course, Small Group Instructor Course and the Combat Lifesaver Course.

He is married 10 years, dual military, to Rebecca Marie Castro assigned to 1st Aviation Brigade.  He has a son of 14 years, Michael A. Castro Jr., a daughter of 13 years Rhyleen Lilly, and a son of 8 years, Reign M. Castro
