Command Sgt. Maj. James D. Wilson, Command Sergeant Major of the Aviation Branch

Command Sgt. Maj. James D. Wilson was born in Beaufort, South Carolina.  He graduated from Warner Robins High School in Warner Robins, Georgia.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1990 – 1994.  He joined the Army in 1996, and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and AIT for MOS 15T, at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

His past assignments include phase team member F Company, 1/160th SOAR (Abn); MH-60L direct action penetrator crew chief, squad leader, enlisted flight instructor, flight platoon sergeant for 2nd Flight Platoon, Charlie Company, 1/160th SOAR (Abn); first sergeant for Charlie Company, 3/160th SOAR (Abn); first sergeant of Fox Company, 1/160th SOAR (Abn); regimental recruiting sergeant major 160th SOAR (Abn); command sergeant major, 4th Bn 160th SOAR (Abn), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; command sergeant major, Task Force 1-160th SOAR (Abn), 160th SOAR (Abn) regiment command sergeant major, United States Army Special Operations Aviation Command (Abn).

Wilson’s military education includes Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeant’s Course, Airborne and Air Assault Courses, High Risk SERE, SERE Level C Course, Army Aviation Accident Prevention Course, and Enlisted Green Platoon. Wilson is a graduate of The United States Army Sergeants Major Academy class 61, JSOU Summit Course and Keystone course.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, three Air Medals with “V”, five Air Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom Campaign Ribbons, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Master Aviation Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
