LTC Gregory S. Sterley, Director, Directorate of Evaluation and Standardization
LTC Gregory "Greg" Sterley was born in Cleveland, OH. He received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Bowling Green State University in 2005 after graduating with a bachelors of science in mechanical design. After completing the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, LTC Sterley was assigned to 15th BSB at Fort Hood, TX where he served as Fuel and Water Platoon Leader, Gun Truck Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer. During his tenure with 15th BSB, LTC Sterley was accepted for branch transfer to Aviation. After completing Flight School, LTC Sterley was assigned to 3-101st AVN REGT at Fort Campbell, KY where he served as Maintenance Platoon Leader, Attack Platoon Leader and Assistant S-3. Following completion of the Captains Career Course, LTC Sterley was again assigned to Fort Hood as Commander, D Co 4-227th AVN REGT. After company command, LTC Sterley served as the Operations Officer for 615th ASB and subsequently attended Intermediate Level Education at the Air Command and Staff College, receiving a Masters in Military Operational Art and Science. LTC Sterley’s field grade assignments following ILE include Commander B Co 96th ASB and Operations Officer 1-101st AVN REGT at Fort Campbell as well as Operations Officer 1-14th Aviation Regiment and Executive Officer 110th Aviation Brigade at Fort Rucker, AL. LTC Sterley completed his CSL assignment as Commander, 96th Aviation Support Battalion at Fort Campbell, KY in June 2025.
Deployment and operational experience include Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Spartan Shield, Operation Resolute Support/Freedom’s Sentinel and Operation Inherent Resolve.
Military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, Aviation Captains Career Course, Air Command and Staff College, Air Cavalry Leaders Course, Aviation Maintenance Officers Course, AH-64D/E Maintenance Test Pilot Course, AH64E Instructor Pilot Course, and the Maintenance Examiner Training Support Package.
Awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (3), Meritorious Service Medal (5), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3), Combat Action Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Order of Saint Michael-Silver.
LTC Sterley has been married to his wife, Jessica, since 2012. They have two children, Allison (10) and Grayson (7).
