• In 1943, PRFTA was commissioned as a Navy Base and named after Rear Admiral Charles W. Parks, CEC, USN.
  • In 1946 the Secretary of the Navy disestablished the facility. From 1946 to 1951, the Navy leased the land to the County of Alameda for use as a rehabilitation center.
  • From 1951 to 1959 the Air Force used PRFTA before the installation was transferred back to the Army in a standby status under the Sixth Army, Presidio of San Francisco.
  • In 1964 the installation was declared excess except for 1,600 acres retained for National Guard and Navy use.
  • In 1980 it was redesignated as a semi-active installation and renamed Parks Reserve Forces Training Area.
  • In 1992 it became a sub-installation of Fort Lewis, and in 1993 Command and Control moved from FORSCOM to Army Reserve Command in Atlanta, Georgia. PRFTA became a direct-reporting installation of Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
  • In 2005 PRFTA became a sub-installation of USAG Fort Hunter Liggett, supporting Active Army, Army Reserve, National Guard, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, and Army ROTC.
