Command Sgt. Maj. John A.  Caprio

Command Sergeant Major John A. Caprio is originally from Williamsport, PA. He enlisted in the Active Army in August 1998 as a Corrections Specialist, after which he was assigned to Fort McClellan, AL, where he went on to complete One Station Unit Training for Basic and Advanced Individual Training.

CSM Caprio has served in multiple leadership and staff positions. He served as a Corrections Specialist, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Facility Operations NCO, Drill Sergeant, Military Transition Team NCO, Observer/Controller (Sidewinder Observer/Controller Team), Battalion and Brigade Operations NCO, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major, and Command Sergeant Major.

His stateside assignments include Fort McClellan, AL; Fort Sill, OH; Fort Leavenworth, KS; Fort Lewis, WA; Fort Irwin, CA; Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Fort Bliss, TX; Fort Carson, CO and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. His overseas assignments include Korea, Germany, Japan, and Kuwait. He deployed to Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and once to Kuwait in Support of Operation Allies Refuge.

CSM Caprio’s military education includes Observer/Controller Academy, Army Operational Electronic Warfare Course (EWO), Interservice Nonlethal Individual Weapons Instructor Course (INIWIC), Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Course; Combative Course, Drill Sergeant School, the Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, Antiterrorism Officer Basic Course, Crime and Criminal Intelligence Analyst Course, Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course, Battalion Pre-Command Course. He is a graduate of all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System and a graduate of Sergeants Major Course class 70. CSM Caprio has an Associates of General Studies from Central Texas College, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Park University, a Master of Arts in Homeland Security and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Strategic Leadership from Liberty University. CSM Caprio is also a Certified Corrections Manager (CCM) through the American Corrections Association.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Army Commendation Medal (8th award), Army Achievement Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 5), Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 4), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), Army Service Ribbon, Drill Sergeant identification Badge, Drivers Badge (Wheeled), Combat Action Badge, Army Superior Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, and the prestigious Order of the Marechausee (Bronze).

CSM Caprio is married to his wife Lea, and they have three children, Nicholas, Kaley and Jalen.
