PEARL CITY, Hawaii -- University of Maryland Global Campus, formerly University of Maryland University College, will celebrate the grand opening of its first civilian location in Hawaii, UMGC@Pearl City, on Thursday, October 24, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at the site (98-1238 Kaahumanu Street, Suite 404) in Pearl City from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Located near the entrance to Joint Base Hickam-Pearl, prospective and current students can access student services and take courses in a high-tech classroom that can accommodate 20 students.
With the new location, service members returning to Hawaii from overseas and deployments will now have even more opportunity to achieve their educational goals by accessing both online and onsite instruction.
UMGC has also recently partnered with the USO in Hawaii to help the organization continue to provide free services to Hawaii-based service members and their families. Through the tie-up, UMGC hopes to increase awareness of the many educational opportunities the university provides to service members, veterans and family members in Hawaii.
UMGC has been serving the military and veteran community in Hawaii since 2005 by meeting with students on the many military installations on Oahu to provide academic advising services.
