News Release

HONOLULU – The annual 8K Hero & Remembrance Run on Sept. 7, 2019. This event is held on historic Ford Island and honors over 8,000 fallen Service Members from all Branches who have given their lives since 9/11.

This is a "no cost" event in honor of the Fallen Service Members who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

The roads of Ford Island will be lined with combat boots, each boot representing a service member who has fallen, either in combat or in garrison after 9-11. Each boot will have the photo of the honored fallen, as well as information to tell those in attendance the fallen’ s name, branch of service, and the date/location of their passing.

Once the event is over, the boots will be reassembled on the corner of Enterprise & O'Kane streets on Historic Ford Island. This will allow everyone an opportunity to look through the boots to find the names and pictures of loved ones.

This visual representation of our nation’s commitment and the sacrifice of our service members all in one location is something that no one will want to miss seeing.  Bring a camera to take photos of this memorial as it will stay on public display until Sept. 14, 2019.

Military and political leaders of the community will participate in the opening ceremonies and the run.  The host for the event is Theresa Johnson. Augie T, one of Hawaii’s favorite award winning comedians, will be the MC for the event.

Everyone is highly encouraged to come out and support this event in any capacity you can. The run is not a timed event; we welcome spectators along the route to wave flags and cheer folks on. We will need volunteers for several locations.
