Public Affairs
April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, SAAPM. Every year, especially during April, the U.S. Army SHARP, or Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention team, works to raise awareness about the program and works towards preventing sexual violence.
April 2, Col. Thomas J. Barrett, commander, U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii, discussed the campaign with his directors and co-signed the SAAPM proclamation, along with senior commander, U.S. Army Hawaii, and commander, 25th Infantry Division, Maj. Gen. Ron Clark.
This year’s theme is “SHARP. Shaping a Culture of Trust. Protecting Our People Protects Our Mission.” The commanders are reminding all community members that they have a unique role to play -- to help prevent and respond to inappropriate behaviors.
Numerous events will happen this month, and service members, families and civilians are all invited to participate:
• April 11, noon-5 p.m., Festival of Healing, Stoneman Field, Schofield Barracks.
• April 18, 6:30 p.m., SHARP Recognition Masquerade Ball, Nehelani, Schofield Barracks.
• April 20, 10 a.m., Pushcart Derby, Weyand Field, Schofield Barracks (Register by April 8.).
