U.S. Army Garrison Hawai’i MWR Release
SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawai’i (March 4, 2021) — After a two-year wait, the Richardson Pool's new waterslide, Tropic Twist, is reopening March 5 at noon.
Community member Lucille Fetterman will cut the ribbon and be the first person to use the slide, after winning the naming contest Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation held in December.
The new slide was constructed from the ground up after the previous slide was declared unusable. The slide was initially scheduled to be reopened in the summer of 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the schedule back.
The Tropic Twist is approximately 19 feet tall and 146 feet long. The slide circulates more than 500 gallons of water each minute.
It costs $2 for an all-day pass to ride Tropic Twist. All riders must be at least 44 inches tall, and weigh less than 250 pounds to ride the slide. Anyone under 65 inches tall must be able to swim one width of the pool.
The Richardson Pool is open Monday and Wednesday-Friday from 6-9 a.m. for active duty physical training and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. for all Department of Defense ID cardholders. On Saturday and Sunday, the pool is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. for all Department of Defense ID cardholders. The pool is closed on Tuesday.
Family and MWR operates four pools across U.S. Army Hawaii – the Aliamanu Military Reservation Pool, Helemano Military Reservation Pool, Richardson Pool on Schofield Barracks and the Tripler Army Medical Center Pool.
The Richardson and Tripler pools are open year-round, offering active duty physical training hours, lap swim and open swim sessions. Aliamanu and Helemano pools are seasonal pools, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year.
