FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii — As the lead agency for this year’s Combined Federal Campaign in the Pacific, the U.S. Army kicked off the program in a way it’s most accustomed doing: a morning run.
Soldiers and Civilians of United States Army Pacific, hundreds of Department of Defense, and other federal agency employees hit the streets of Fort Shafter ensuring the annual fundraising drive got off to a running start.
“It was great to see the services come out and support,” said Maj. Gen. Timothy McKeithen, USARPAC Chief of Staff and this year's campaign chairman. “This campaign is all about being part of something bigger than ones self. This gives back in many ways the service member doesn’t always see.”
In addition to the Army, personnel from the Marines, Navy, and other federal offices participated in the fun run/walk that not only got their morning energy flowing, but also raised awareness as to the importance and how easy it is to donate towards the yearly charity campaign.

“A lot of our junior service members don’t know how to give, how to volunteer. CFC is an easy way, a very efficient way to actually donate and find those charities that is near and dear to our hearts,” said Marine Corps Maj. Philip Gallon.
The Combined Federal Campaign is the world’s largest and most successful charity operation supporting nonprofit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world. In Hawaii, the campaign raised over $1.8M in 2018.
Appearing this morning on Palm Circle to not only provide emotional support for runners but to also to tout the importance of their services, were several local nonprofit organizations that stand to benefit from the campaign donations.
