FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii – Installation Management Command-Pacific (IMCOM-P) bid farewell to their Regional Director, Dr. Christine T. Altendorf during a “Flying V” ceremony on historic Palm Circle, Fort Shafter, Oct. 24.
Altendorf departs IMCOM-P, “The Army’s Home in the Pacific,” for a position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters in Washington D.C. where she will serve as the Chief of Engineering and Construction. Originally, IMCOM was established to create uniformity in facilities and services across 184 installations, worldwide. The Pacific Region is located at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, and manages the garrisons located in Korea, Japan, Alaska, Hawaii, and Kwajalein.
Altendorf has made an indelible impact on Soldiers and their families throughout the Pacific since her arrival in April 2015.
“I am most proud of the relationships built and the teamwork developed so that IMCOM-P and its garrisons were instrumental in many challenging Army initiatives to include the Korea transformation, base defense at OCONUS installations, Hawaii infrastructure readiness initiative, Alaska quality of life program, Kwajalein base-ops transition to log-cap and many other focus areas,” Altendorf recalled.
Besides building relationships throughout the Pacific to help Families and Soldiers and leading projects that could make a difference in their lives, Altendorf recognized the unique challenges and opportunities available in the region.
“The Pacific is an amazing place to live and work. Not only is the work exciting, challenging and exhilarating, it is also a cultural mecca that one will not get to experience if they stay on the mainland. The countries are rich in experiences and friendships and any Soldier or Civilian should see it as an honor to get to serve in the Pacific. And while you are realizing that honor, remember that IMCOM is always there to support, educate, facilitate, and make your life comfortable as you may be far away from loved ones. Yes - we are your home in the Pacific,” Altendorf added.
Altendorf will receive the Installation Management Command’s Stalwart Award which is given to employees who distinguish themselves amongst their peers and leaders as outstanding IMCOM Civilians and exceed the call of duty to achieve Installation Management Command and Army mission success.
