Year after year, Halloween activities are becoming more and more popular. You don’t want to miss out on any of these events happening about Oahu.

  • Now through Oct. 31

Enjoy 1 1/2 mile Walk with the Dead Ghost Tours in downtown Honolulu and Chinatown, daily, through Oct. 31. Meet  at King Kamehameha Statue, 417 S. King St., at 7 p.m. Cost is $40. Open to 21 and over. Call 395-0674 for more details. Visit stevestoursandfilms.vpweb.com.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 23

Army Community Service, Schofield Barracs will hold an ACS Trunk or Treat at Bldg. 690, at 1:30 p.m. Come in your spookiest Halloween attire. Treats will be available for all ghosts and ghouls. It will be a spooktacular good time for all family members. Exceptional Family Member Program families can attend from 12:30-1:30  p.m.; the community can attend from 1:30-3:30 p.m. For more details, visit www.himwr.com/acs or call 655-4227.

  • Friday, Oct. 25

Service members, including spouses, unaccompanied and single service members over the age of 18 can see if they can handle the Spooky Halloween Party on Oct. 25, from 6-9 p.m., at Kalakaua Community Center.

  • Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26

You're in for a wickedly good time at the Honolulu Zoo's Boo at the Zoo, Oct. 25 or 26 at 5:30-8 p.m. Take a trip down their Trick-or-Treat Trail, listen to spooky stories, get blown away by our Mad Science presentations, play ghoulish games, create creepy crafts and learn to be eek-o-friendly at the conservation stations!   • Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 1

The Hangar on Wheeler Army Airfield will hold two days of Halloween parties. Attend this event on Oct. 26 from 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m. children 0-12 years old can participate in the Costume Contest. On Nov. 1 from 8 p.m.-midnight, the facility will be open for an adult Halloween party. Note, The Hangar is open to patrons 18 years and over after 8 p.m. Call 656-1745 for more details.

  • Saturday, Oct. 26
  1. The Desmond Doss Health Clnic on Schofield Barracks will host a DDHC Haunted Clnic on Oct. 26. The non-scary children's route will run from 6-8:30 p.m.; the haunted clinic route wll run from 7-10 p.m. The fee for adults 18-plus is $5; children 17 and under are $1.
  2. Join the Tropics Recreation Center for Halloween Fright Night,  Oct. 26 from 8-11:30 p.m. There will be food and drink specials, a DJ, games and more.   4. Have you heard of #HalloweenComicFest? The annual event takes place Oct. 26 around the world and celebrates both Halloween and comics. Free Halloween-themed comics are available and many shops also host costume contests. Local comic shops participating include Westside Comics and Games in Aiea and Other Realms Ltd - The Comic & Game Specialist in Honolulu.   5. Cat Fanciers of Hawai'i will host a CFA Championship Cat Show and Cat Costume Contest,  Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu. Dog owners are invited to bring “man’s best friend” to join Hawaii Pet Beat for the Howloween Boonanza featuring, of course, a canine costume contest, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Pearlridge Center's Mauka Court. The event will feature a host of other activities for the four-legged family members, as well as learning opportunities for owners from local pet-related organizations.   8. Are you ready for a creepy night ride through the banyan trees and amongst the shadowy trails of the fabled North Shore? Join Outdoor Recreation for a Sleepy Hallow Night Ride Oct. 26 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. This unique bike tour will explore spooky night time paths along the beaches, share scary stories and celebrate the Halloween season! All participants are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. Transportation, equipment and water are provided. Cost is $30 per person. Enjoy fall festivities at Aloun Farms, 91-1440 Farrington Hwy., from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Get aboard hay and pony rides, taste farm-style food, take picture booth photos and enjoy the many games for everyone. The Fort Shafter Hui, which is a spouses club, is hosting its 2nd Annual Hui Trunk or Treat and a Chili Cook Off on Oct. 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Fort Shafter Thrift Shop, Bldg. 342.. This free event is for all community residents with a special invitation to all Shafter Elementary School families.   • Wednesday, Oct. 30
  1. Get ready for Movie on the Lawn at the USO Schofield Barracks, weather permitting. Everyone is invited to enjoy popcorn and candy while watching "Hocus Pocus," Oct. 30, on the south side of the USO by the plumeria trees. This event runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. You may wear costumes and bring blankets and chairs.  
  2. Celebrate Halloween with your pup at the very first Hallo-woof Dog Costume Contest, Wednesday, Oct. 30th, at Kaka’ako Sunset Market at 1050 Ala Moana Blvd. Check-in for costumed participants will be from 5-5:45 p.m. Judging and costume parade will start at 6 p.m. Extra points for matching owner & pet costumes. FarmLovers invites you and your dog to show off your costume creativity. Costumes will be judged by a panel of judges including our friends from the Hawaii Humane Society. Prizes for Dog Costume Contest will be  1) a week’s worth of Raw Dog Food from Raw Dog Hawaii, 2) a handmade, upcycled leash by Hippy Chic Hawaii, and 3) a  pupsicle by PopBox. Note, the Hawaii Humane Society will be present to answer questions about pet adoption, volunteering, and foster care. The Hawaiian Humane Society is an educational and advocacy organization that also shelters, protects, rescues, reunites and rehomes animals. It is Oahu’s only shelter that welcomes all animals. Also noe, we love all dogs but we ask that you bring your pet to participate ONLY if they are well socialized. All pets must be on leash at all times. Kaka’ako Sunset Market is open 4-8 p.m.

  • Thursday, Oct. 31

Authorized trick or treat hours for all community housing in U.S. Army Hawaii are 5-8 p.m. Parents should remnd children to look both ways before crossing the street and use crosswalks; wait for proper traffic signals and stay on the sidewalk whenever possible; if there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the roadway facing traffic; and never enter a vehicle or homes when invited by a stranger. Children 13 and under must be inside their or a friends residence by 9 p.m. Children 14-17 must be inside their or a friends residence by 10 p.m. Children under the age of 10 require an adult escort.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 31 and Thursday, Nov. 1

Tripler Army Medical Center and the Desmond Doss Health Clinic, Schofield Barracks, will X-ray candy for patrons. Families wishing to have their treats examined should report to the TAMC Radiology reception area 3G mountainside 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31 or Nov. 1. Families can report to DDHC Radiology, Bldg. 685, first floor,  from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 31 or from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 1 . Note, the X-raying of candy will not detect non-metals, such as fine particles, liquids, powders, and chemical contaminates. Patient care is a priority. Personnel wait time for X-raying of candy will be dependent on medical patient examinations needing to be performed.
