SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii -- An important change has recently been made to the Army’s “Personnel Claims” regulation in AR 27-20, Chapter 11.

Effective immediately, the Army will no longer pay for personnel claims due to “unusual circumstances.” Unusual circumstances include, but are not limited to, fire, flood, hurricane, earthquake, or weather phenomena that are unusual for the location of the loss.

This policy change is meant to encourage individual responsibility for personal property. Soldiers should ensure they maintain private insurance, such as auto and renters insurance, against personal property losses caused by adverse weather and other hazards.
