Lt. Col. Ryan E. Oliver, Battalion Commander

Lt. Col. Ryan E. Oliver graduated from the University of Georgia in 2005. Upon graduation he worked as a mortgage broker in Atlanta until 2006 when he joined the Army. After graduating Officer Candidate School as a Distinguished Military Graduate, he accepted his commission as a second lieutenant, branched Infantry. His first assignment was as a rifle platoon leader for Chosin’ Company, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, at Fort Lewis, Washington. After 14 months as a platoon leader, he transitioned to the role of executive officer for Chosin’ Company. Following his time at Fort Lewis, Oliver served as the company commander for Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia, from 2009-2010. Upon completion of command, he accepted the position as the S3 for the Provincial Reconstruction Team deployed to Kunar Province, Afghanistan. He served in this capacity from 2010-2011.
After graduating on the Commandant’s List from the Maneuver Captains Career Course, Oliver served as the assistant S-3 for 6th Squadron, 4th Calvary Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He also served as the troop commander for Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 6th Sqdn., 4th Cav., deployed to Regional Command-North, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon selection for the Army Acquisition Corps, Oliver attended the Army Acquisition Foundation Course and the Army Basic Contracting Course where he graduated as the Distinguished Graduate and Honor Graduate, respectively. In his first contracting assignment, he served as a warranted contracting officer and team leader for the 675th Contracting Team, 928th Contracting Battalion, in Grafenwoehr, Germany, where he provided operational contract support (OCS) throughout Europe. After Germany, he attended the Command and General Staff Officer Course (Resident) where he graduated with honors. Following CGSoC, he served as a warranted contracting officer and team leader for the 715th Contracting Team, providing OCS throughout Alaska and the Pacific, as well as a myriad staff and organizational leadership roles to include the chief of contracting for the Regional Contracting Office – Alaska. In his most recent assignment, he served as a warranted contracting officer and architect-engineer section chief for Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Oliver holds a master’s degree in procurement and acquisitions management from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia. He is legacy DAWIA Level III certified in contracting and legacy DAWIA Level I certified in program management. He is also a graduate of the Command and General Staff Officer Course (Resident), the Maneuver Captains Career Course, Infantry Officer’s Basic Course, Airborne School, Combatives Level II and the United States Army’s SERE-C Course.
Oliver’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation with oak leaf cluster, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge and the Order of St. Maurice.
Oliver is married and has two daughters.
