Command Sgt. Maj. Jason A. Topping

71st Ordnance Group (EOD)

Command Sgt. Maj. Jason A. Topping is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and he enlisted in the Army in March 2004 as an infantryman. He attended One Station Unit Training and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He completed Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal in May 2005.

Topping has served in every leadership position throughout his career ranging from EOD team leader to command sergeant major. He has served as an EOD specialist, EOD sergeant, EOD team leader, EOD platoon sergeant, company operations NCOIC, first sergeant, battalion operations NCOIC, division EOD NCO, Asia Pacific Counter Improvised Explosive Device Fusion Center/U.S. Army Pacific sergeant major and 192nd Ordnance Battalion (EOD) command sergeant major. 

His stateside assignments include Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His overseas assignments include Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Fort Shafter, Hawaii. He has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. 

Topping’s military education includes all phases of the NCO Education System including Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Airborne School, Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Improvised Explosive Device Defeat School, Large Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Disposal Course, Home Made Explosives Course, Journeyman’s Instructor Course and the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Course. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and a master’s in business administration.

Topping’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Badge, Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge, Basic Airborne Badge and the Senior Instructor Badge.

Topping is married and has two daughters.
