Col. Nathanael Joslyn 

10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Commander

Col. Nathanael “Nate” Joslyn was born in Rockford, Illinois, and grew up in Bedford, Virginia. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and was commissioned in the United States Army as an infantry officer in 2004.

Joslyn’s first assignment was in the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served as a rifle platoon leader, rifle company executive officer and an infantry reconnaissance platoon leader.

Upon selection for Special Forces and completion of the Qualification Course, Joslyn served in 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he commanded Special Forces Operational Detachment - Alpha 0335 and the battalion’s Headquarters Support Company.

In 2013, Joslyn attended the Command and General Staff Officer’s Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and received a Master of Arts in global and international studies from the University of Kansas. Subsequently, he attended the Advanced School of Military Studies and earned a Master of Military Art and Science.

He returned to 10th Special Forces Group in 2015, and commanded Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion. Following command, he served as the 2nd Battalion operations officer and as the group operations officer. After his second assignment with 10th Group, Joslyn served in the Joint Interagency Task Force - National Capital Region as an interagency operations officer and as the task force director of operations.

Joslyn commanded 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, from 2020-2022 and the Special Operations Training Detachment at Fort Polk, Louisiana, from 2022-2024. Following these assignments, he served as an interagency Army War College Fellow in Washington, D.C.

Joslyn has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2006-2007), Operation Juniper Shield (2011-2012), Operation Freedom’s Sentinel (2016), Operation Gallant Phoenix (2019) and Operation Inherent Resolve (2021-2022).  His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (3), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (3), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2), Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Senior Parachutist’s Badge, Special Operations Diver’s Badge, Ranger Tab and Special Forces Tab.

Joslyn is married and has three sons.
